The functionality of the TranslationCMPlugin file is to add a Translate menu to the Finder contextual menus that makes use of MacOS Easy Open's translation capabilities to create a copy of a document that is converted to another format.
The TranslationCMPlugin is free software. It is my first Contextual menu plug-in. If you are interested in the source code, please ask me. See below for ways to contact me.
How do I use it?
You need to be running Mac OS 8. and have the SOMobjects™ for Mac OS and Contextual Menu Extension extensions installed and enabled in your System Folder. You should also have MacOS Easy Open (in the Control Panels folder). It is recommended to use QuickTime, MacLink, or any other translation extensions.
Place the file in the Contextual Menu Items folder or drop it on your closed System Folder icon. as sated in the Finder. Restart the computer (or use the Contextual Menu Plugin Reloader if you got the app).
Simply control-click on any document in a Finder window to make a contextual menu appear. The TranslationCMPlugin will then ask MacOS Easy Open to list all possible translations. If there is a translation is possible, the format name and translation extension to use will appear in a sub-menu named Translate.
Select a format from the list to create a copy of the document in that format. It is possible that the translation extension cannot translate the file because it did not make an extensive check of the document when it was asked to create a list of formats.
Why is there so many "DOS file" formats?
For now, the TranslationCMPlugin is not able to get the real translation name. It only gets the name of the kind of the translated document as it will appear in the Finder. These formats represents different format of application on PC platforms that will appear as 'DOS file's in the Macintosh Finder. Obviously you cannot know what 'DOS file' to use.
I (Philippe Gauthier) am not responsible for anything that can happen by the use of TranlationCMPlugin. It may be buggy (I don't think so), so if the computer freezes and you lost a million-dollar file it is not my fault.
